Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 22, 2016) – Harli White is more determined than ever following a pair of incidents that hampered her results during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s season-opening weekend.
“It was chaos because we were thrashing and working on cars the whole weekend,” she said. “Overall I have more confidence in my driving ability. We know what the car is capable of doing. We were more aggressive than normal so that’s good. The car is fast. We just need to put together a consistent race and finish.”
The weekend started last Thursday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, where White advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. That lined her up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“We were doing well and moving toward the top five,” she said. “I tried to dive between two cars and got stuck in no man’s land. I looped it, but kept it going. At the same time a caution was called for another car that stopped. I should have got my spot back, but they put me to the back.”
White rebounded from the miscue to climb back inside the top 10 late in the race before she was involved in another incident.
“I got back up to seventh or so and got high off turn four and the wall collected me,” she said. “It tore up the front axle so that ended our night early.”
She was credited with a 17th-place finish.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, where a doubleheader was condensed into one show following Friday’s rain out.
“I felt pretty good in hot laps,” she said. “I started dead last in the second heat. Some cars got together on the start and I got around one of them going into turn one. Then going into turn three the same two cars got into each other and it collected me. I flipped and so it tore up everything. Luckily we got it back together in time for the B Main.”
White overcame the heat race flip to charge from 15th to fifth place in a consolation race, which was only two positions shy of a transfer into the main event.
“I just needed a few more laps or a caution,” she said. “It went green to checkered without a caution so that was hard to make up so much ground.”
White is slated to return to action this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the 6th annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 Sprint Car Series. She will also take part in Thursday’s practice, which includes a special qualifying session.
