Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (April 6, 2016) – Harli White endured a roller coaster weekend during the 3rd annual Turnpike Challenge with the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series.
“It was up and down all weekend,” she said. “We were fast, yet we couldn’t catch a break. It’s disappointing to have such a bad night on Friday and then have a decent night going on Saturday and not be able to put together a 40-lap race.”
The action began at Port City Raceway last Friday with White advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. That lined her up on the outside of the front row for a B Main.
“We were running second with about three laps to go when I got ran over from behind so I didn’t make the A Main that night,” she said. “They ran over the left side of the car and it spun me out so we were forced to restart at the back with only a couple of laps remaining.”
White ended with a 13th-place result in the consolation race.
“We were ok on Friday, but were fighting the car,” she said. “We went back to our normal setup on Saturday and we could tell right off the bat it was way better.”
White maneuvered from sixth to a third-place finish in a heat race. That locked her into the 11th starting position for the main event.
“At the start I was following everyone on the bottom and we were passing cars,” she said. “There was a caution about 10 laps in and I decided I better try the top. Going into the first corner my car was too tight. I jumped the cushion and spun out. After that it seemed like I kept getting tangled with everybody on the track.”
White was caught up in multiple cautions, including one that broke the front end on her race car. She was credited with a 23rd-place result.
“I’m not sure what we’re going to do this weekend,” she said. “We’ve had three straight weeks of tearing stuff up so hopefully we’re getting all of our bad luck out of the way early this season.”
