Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (May 24, 2016) – Harli White was in contention to capture her first win of the season last Saturday at Lawton Speedway, where she led the first seven laps of the ASCS Red River Region main event.
“From the get-go I was fast that night,” said White, who kicked off the night by driving from third to win a heat race before starting the main event on the outside of the front row.
“In the feature I stayed out front and was doing great. I was driving the car hard because I kept thinking someone was on my tail. The track was slick to the cushion so you had to be pretty careful. I was getting in traffic and I knew if I didn’t get around those cars fast enough I’d get passed. Once we got to the first set of cars I went down to slide them and I looped it in turns one and two.”
White did a full spin and kept going, but she fell back to fourth place.
“I was catching the leaders again and did the same thing late in the race,” she said. “It was disappointing because my dad said I had that won. I kind of stepped on it there. I was overdriving the car.”
White ended with a 10th-place result, which was her fourth top 10 of the season.
Last weekend began on Friday with the ASCS Red River Region at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. White opened the night by driving from sixth to third place in a heat race. That put her in the feature redraw and she pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.
“The track was super heavy and super locked down all night,” she said. “It kept getting faster and faster. I jumped up to fourth and stayed there for a little. We had caution after caution and red flag after red flag. My car kept getting tighter and tighter. I was running about eighth halfway through and went into turns one and two and biked it a little. The car came back down on the right rear. I thought it broke the right rear shock. I ended up pulling it in to save our equipment.”
White exited the track early and was credited with a 17th-place finish.
She is slated to race with the ASCS Gulf South Region this Friday at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
