Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 5, 2016) – At some point the bad luck has to run out for Harli White, who ran into several obstacles last weekend during the Steve King Memorial at Dodge City Raceway Park.
The doubleheader began on Friday with White battling fuel and brake problems. She was credited with an eighth-place result in a heat race, sixth in the B Main and 18th in the feature. However, she ended with a DNF in all three races.
“Friday night we were fighting a fuel problem issue where the motor wouldn’t run,” she said. “In the midst of that we’ve been fighting a brake problem. I got all the way up to 10th a few laps into the feature, but I had to pull off because I had zero brakes. It broke the bolt on the bolt mount.”
The team went through the car prior to Saturday’s finale, which was postponed one day because of rain.
“We changed the rear end,” she said. “We changed fuel lines, the fuel pump; we pretty much changed the whole back end of the car on Saturday morning.”
Sunday’s event began with White finishing fifth in a heat race before she won a qualifier. That put her eighth in overall points and started the team on the outside of the fourth row for the $10,000-to-win main event.
“The feature was going good for a while,” she said. “I was running seventh and going three wide when I had the air taken off of me. I rode the wall for a little bit and lost a few positions. A couple of laps later I had got back up to seventh and was passing for sixth and the front gasket on the motor where the motor mount goes broke so all the water came out of the motor so we had to pull off.”
White was unable to finish the night and was credited with a 16th-place result.
“It was frustrating because it was a big show and we wanted to do well and we were capable of doing well,” she said. “I think we could have got a top five and that would have been a good showing for us. We’ve had a fast car every time we’ve been out. We just can’t catch a break. Then again we have to stay positive because we have had a fast car.”
White will return to competition this Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; Friday at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Wainwright, Okla.; and Saturday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., for the Sooner Sweep with the ASCS Red River Region.
