Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 11, 2018) – Harli White had a strong performance last weekend during the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway.
White made the A Main during both nights of the ASCS Mid-South Region event out of a field of more than 80 competitors. She then finished the doubleheader by posting her career-best Short Track Nationals result, which tied her best-ever finish at the track.
“We changed a lot on the car,” she said. “It was good to get a practice day in to try some things we wanted to try. Going into the event I was confident we had a pretty fast car. It was a matter of everything going our way and having a little luck on our side. The changes that we made helped me tremendously to where I was comfortable and could drive the car more.”
The event began on Friday with White placing second in a heat race before she won a qualifier. That ranked her ninth in overall points and lined her up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.
“The draw is really important so drawing good really helped us,” she said. “Starting closer to the front really helps you and we took advantage in the heat and qualifier. We went off what we had been doing (in the feature) and got the car a little too free and I looped it.”
White, who finished 19th on Friday, rebounded the following night. She advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race and maneuvered from seventh to third place in a qualifier. She again ranked ninth in points to start the feature ninth.
“We didn’t get the best draw, but I was able to pass a few cars and that made the difference,” she said. “The A Main went really well. I maintained the first half of the race and the last half we really came alive. I was way better the last half of the race once I started driving the car the way it liked it. I changed my corner entry and that really helped. If I would have figured that out a little sooner we could have had a top five.”
The seventh-place result was White’s 19th top 10 of the season.
“It’s huge,” she said. “We’ve been racing at some tracks where a lot of cars show up. It feels good to make the mains with 80-plus cars and then to finish seventh is a great confidence booster.”
White will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the USCS Series.
