Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 10, 2019) – Harli White produced her third podium finish of the season last Saturday during an ASCS Frontier Region race at Big Sky Speedway.
“Johnny (Herrera) was racing at Big Sky and I thought I might as well race, too,” she said. “It was good to get back to running well. We tried a couple of things with the car to see if we could get more speed and I think we fixed a couple of issues that we were having.”
White won a heat race from the pole, which locked her into the feature redraw. She pulled the No. 2 to line up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.
“It was one lane around the bottom we thought,” she said. “I got a terrible start and had to make up for it. (Jordon) Mallett got away and had half a track lead. I was running second so I just went to the top to try it and it actually worked. I railed the top and caught him in a couple of laps. I passed him and led the white flag lap. We came up to a lapped car on the last lap. He went to the bottom and I stayed on the top. The lapped car moved up enough for him to sneak by and he beat me by a bumper. It’s nothing to hang our heads about. We were there competing for the win.”
White’s second-place finish marked her eighth top five of the season and it was a breath of fresh air following two frustrating weekends of racing in Washington.
“We struggled in Washington those two weeks,” she said. “Nothing seemed to go right so hopefully we’re back on track.”
White returns to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action this Friday and Saturday at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., during the Grizzly Nationals. She finished second and eighth, respectively, at the track last year and was eighth and 13th in 2017.
“We have some notes from last year and we were competitive,” she said. “I had a chance to win and ran second. Maybe we can take a picture with the bear this weekend. I don’t really want to, but it means you won the race.”
