Bryan Hulbert – MESQUITE, Texas (October 22, 2020) Rounding out her 2020 season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Harli White posted a weekend best eighth-place finish at the Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals.
“Overall, it wasn’t a bad weekend. I feel like I made some mistakes as a driver on Friday that kept us out of a top-five finish, and Saturday, we just drew deep, and with the track as narrow as it was at the start of the night, it just made it tough to move forward, so we ended having to race out the B-Feature. Once it started to widen out, we were able to move around.”
A rare weekend racing against her crew chief, Johnny Herrera, the chance to do so is something that Harli said she wishes they could do more often.
“It was pretty cool racing with Johnny. In the A-Feature, he got passed me, and I wasn’t going to let that stick and did get back around him, but we had a lot of fun, and the better part of it was he got to follow me and see how the car reacting and actually gave us some insight. Knowing now what he saw, I really wish that we could have done that a little bit more at the start of the season. I think it would have helped even more with our overall setup.”
Ending the season fifth in tour standings, the run accomplished the team’s biggest goal on the season.
“Of course, you always want to win, but our goals was to get in the top five and finish there, and that’s what we did. Barely, but we achieved that goal. I’m really proud of what we were able to do this year and grateful to all of our sponsors and fans who stuck with us. It was a tough year with everything that happened, so it really means a lot. Plus, everything my parents have done and the lesson that Johnny has taught me.”
Putting a lid on the 2020 season, White ended the year as the first woman to top the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network with her victory at Riverside International Speedway. She is the highest-finishing woman in National Tour standings and was the first-ever to lead the points. Overall, her season consisted of 41 events with one win, eight top-five, 14 top ten, and 20 top twenty runs. The season also included nine Heat Race wins.
The 2020 season marks the 13th year of racing for Harli White. Racing full time with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Harli will also mix in several events throughout the country when not on the road.
